CATARINA MARTINS – HISTORY OF THE BRAND
The story of the brand goes back to 1993 with the foundation of the mother company, “Always Shoes” that Paulo Martins opened in Portugal to give creative and production support to famous international shoemaking companies.
Ten years later, Paulo Martins, with a profound know-how and experience, decides to create a handcrafted a brand with a strong and creative personality. So, on the 17th of September 2003 the trade name “Catarina Martins” was born. A name chosen because it belongs to great historic personalities but, above all, the name Catarina has a big personal significance because it is the same name Paulo Martins gave his daughter.
With a small team of young, dynamic, dedicated and loyal people, alongside the partners and representatives, who Paulo Martins likes to call “Friends”, the brand has grown with a surprising speed. The company that initially started with just two people and today, has turned into a group of 18 professionals that were able to produce an annual turnover of 18 million euros.
“Catarina Martins” is distributed in the mid- high range of shops in various countries like France, Benelux, Germany, Spain, Denmark, Eastern Europe, Greece, Japan and Portugal. Recently, “Catarina Martins” has inaugurated a new store in Lisbon where the brand has combined forces with two other well known Portuguese stylists: Teresa Martins (TM Collection) and Denise Lemos (Muu Handbags).
Nowadays our biggest market is Italy where demand, quality and design are the prevailing factors that make us stand out from the other shoe brands.
The company is a regular participant at the main international fairs and venues such as the GDS in Düsseldorf, the MICAM in Milan, the CPM in Moscow, the Première Classe in Paris and PREMIUM in Berlin.
This collection, that is made for a woman with a jovial and dynamic spirit, who appreciates fashion with comfort and quality, is conceived with exclusively selected raw materials and handcrafted with the utmost dedication and care. That is why every item is unique and bears the label “SHOES MADE IN REGION OF OPORTO (PORTUGAL)”. This is a tribute to the region and the dedicated and hardworking people who produce these shoes.
